With so much diversity in the Philippines, you can expect to hear a variety of folktales. Some stories feature mythical creatures that vary slightly from region to region. And some stories are variations of folktales from other countries. Want to learn more?
Enter to win a paperback copy of “Philippine Myths, Legends and Folktales” by Maximo D. Ramos.
Dr. Maximo Ramos

A collection of 31 Myths, Legends, and Folktales from around the Philippines that showcase the rich and diverse cultural identity throughout the archipelago. The book includes some illustrations, making it a wonderful collection to share with children of Filipino ancestry, or anyone interested in learning about different cultures from around the globe.
The stories in this book are in English and best suited for older children and adults. There are some scenes that depict violence to humans and animals.
If scary mythical creatures are your jam, I recommend “The Creatures of Lower Mythology” also by Dr. Maximo D. Ramos. If you haven’t heard of Dr. Ramos yet, he did extensive research on folklore and mythology of the Philippines, and was the first editor in chief of Phoenix Publishing House in Quezon City, Philippines. His books are available in paperback on Amazon.
