As part of the #standupforaapi prompts this week, I’m giving away a board book by Filipina American author, illustrator, and small press publisher – Isabel Roxas @studioroxas. She was born in Manila, Philippines, raised on luscious mangoes, old wives’ tales, and monsoon moons. She is now based in New York City.
⭐️ This book is the first in a series by authors Megan Madison @meganmadison and Jessica Ralli @jessicaearlylit, illustrated by Isabel Roxas.
⭐️ Our Skin: A First Conversation About Race was developed by experts in the fields of early childhood and activism against injustice. This topic-driven board book offers clear, concrete language and beautiful imagery that young children can grasp and adults can leverage for further discussion.
⭐️ The book discusses not only skin color differences but ideas behind racism and how they affect people around us. Although it is a board book, older kids (7 or 8 years old) would still be able to read it without feeling like it’s for babies.
⭐️ The next book in the series is Being You: A First Conversation About Gender. Check out @first_conversations and www.firstconversations.com for more resources.
